Rated 2 out of 5 by from A big disapointment My 3rd chainsaw in a month. The first never left the store. It would not oil the chain. The 2nd never started once I got it home. The 3rd flooded out constantly. Brought it back for a carb adjustment after 3 hours of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1 year later, I'm still excited about this saw I've used my MS250 for a year now and can't believe what a value it is. I have a house that borders woods and have used the saw for seasonal clearing of both trees and large vines. I've also used the saw up at my cabin. It has made quick work of felling, bucking and clearing. It starts easy every time and has plenty of power. I still can't believe I got this saw new, from a dealer for such a reasonable price. Very happy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not start I bought this saw to do light to medium work. Besides being started one time at purchase I started it once. The next time I went to start it, it would not start. Didn’t even have a sign of starting or firing. Took it back to the store and purchased the farm boss.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this saw Bought my MS250 in the fall of 2010 when I purchased my first home that has a good size wooded lot. This saw has been a dream to own. I’ve had to fire it up to cut up a downed limb during a bitter cold bitter cold Michigan February and it was running within 4 pulls. I’ve never had an issue with it starting, cold or hot. The only thing I’ve had to do to it was replace the bar oil cap due to the seal wearing out and leaking bar oil all over. My only gripe is the bar oiling system. It is VERY easily clogged with saw dust and stops piling the bar. Plan on popping the side over off and cleaning out the saw dust where the Oiler oils the bar and cleaning out the hole on the bar every time you have to fill the tank. I put an 18” bar and a more aggressive chain (green link I believe) on it and it works great with the power of the saw, hardly bogs down, if at all as long as chai is good and sharpe. I’ll plan on purchasing a bigger one at some point in the furture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just bought it. For trimming limbs off of downed trees, or cutting up smaller logs (up to 4 or 5 inches) this saw works great. It is a little touchy to start and easily flooded. You have to yank the starter rope pretty hard on this model. I own a 311 with a compression release that is easier to start than this little saw. The best thing is the weight. After using my 311 for a while, this saw is a dream to handle. If it started easier, it would be perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this chainsaw I love this chainsaw. It is ALWAYS dependable, starts right away. I love it so much that I actually wore one out! And, yes, replaced with the very same model. We have 120 aces of woods and I love cutting for firewood. This saw is an easy start - so nice as I am a woman.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good price + Good performance = Great Value Great performing saw with good power and modest weight. Perfect for occasional use around the farm, but when needed provides reliable heavy duty performance. Took a little getting used to the starting procedure, but had it mastered after the first use. Overall, very solid saw for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Stihl chainsaw Very impressed with the performance and power this saw has. It usually take 5-7 pulls to start when cold and starts on 1 pull when hot. Very lightweight and easy to carry. Two Thumbs up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Robust Clean-Up and Firewood Saw I'm an ex-logger, but all I needed for around the house was a homeowner grade Stihl. We had an ice storm here in MI on a Sunday in early April. A large limb dropped from our box elder tree in the back lot, and got hung up in 2 trees, and a fence. I went to my local dealer, brought home one of these MS250's, and got to work cutting up the massive limb. This saw muscled through the thickest part of the limb (20" or more) with the 18" bar burried, as well as the thinner branches with ease. Keep in mind, this is not a "pro" line saw - and this was a large job for this model to tackle. Probably more than I should have tried putting it through right out of the gate. But it held up! I'm actually amazed. I even kept the stock LP chain on it for this clean up (though I also purchased a 26 RS 68 chain as well). I have also used it to cut up some 4X4 heat-treated oak beams at work, and I cut a full cord (and more) of red oak/silver maple firewood from 6"-14" logs up at our cabin. After all this, I have 0 problems to report. ZERO, folks. I have to suspect user error for all the problems in other reviews pertaining to hard-starting (again, I had no problems starting this saw, cold OR warm). For the price, displacement and power-to-weight ratio, this MS250 is an amazing workhorse. I've been using Stihl saws since my Grandfather taught me how to use his old 028 in the early 90's, and this is why! Best chainsaws on earth, hands down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best saw this is the 2nd MS 250 I have owned, the weight of saw is a lot lighter than the other saw we were considering, but still falls trees with ease. Great saw to have around the ranch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent all around saw I have had this saw for about 2 years. I got "it" (a voucher from the wife and kids) on Father's day, did a ton of research and when my local hardware store had "Stihl Days" with a discount price and an extra chain, I pounced.I have used it about 25-30 times for a total of close to 100 hours since I bought it. Still on the original chain and still cutting VERY well (no ground contact so far - touch wood). Most of my cutting has been windfalls or cutting up the leavings from logging my friend's woods. It exceeds my expectations in everything from limbing, to bucking to felling medium sized hardwoods. It's light and agile enough - with a stock 18" bar - to run a couple tanks of gas through in an afternoon and still have enough energy left to split and stack the big stuff. I have yet to run into anything that I thought I needed stronger saw for, but I'm also patient. If there is a nit to be picked, I have two. The last time I had the saw out for a long day, every time I put the saw horizontal for any length of time, it would quit. It did that 4 or 5 times until I gave up and had my friend do all the horizontal cuts and I did the rest. After a VERY brief Google search I discovered that the fuel pickup can get hung up within the tank and sure enough I opened the fuel cap with the saw on it's side and the pickup was right there by the filler opening well above the fuel line. I just pushed the pickup off the casting and haven't had a problem since.Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase. The MS250 has been around in nearly the exact form for a long time so there is plenty of information on the internet. For a higher end home owner saw, it certainly has my vote.I didn't check "easy to maintain" because at this point, I haven't had to maintain anything. I check the chain, the bar, add gas and bar oil and off we go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value This is the second Chainsaw I have purchased from Stihl. I have only used the new one one time but if I'm as pleased with this one as much as the first one I will be happy to recommend Stihl.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Performance / Weight / Price Value Ever. I can't say enough good things about this saw. It is light weight, VERY powerful, and the easiest to start I have ever used or owned. No bulb to prime, just set it to choke and pull. Starts right up. The power is amazing, making short work of everything that it comes into contact with. The weight is the best part. I was able to clear cut two acres in an afternoon without feeling much in the way of fatigue. Super saw, for a super price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great saw for average homeowner. I have owned this saw for about a month and have used it for yard clean up. I have everything from felling trees to light clean up. This saw has started on less than 3 pulls every time even in the cold (10-30 deg). Chain doesn't stretch as fast as other saws due to the oiling of the chain which allows me to run longer than other saws I have used in the past. This saw also has enough power to run through everything I have put in front of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool! Needed a new saw to replace one that no longer has available parts. MS250 came highly recommended. Easy start. Plenty of power for trees sized to the saw. Dealer was extra helpful in purchase, too. The 2017 model does not have to be tuned with a computer -- a huge plus for user.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic chainsaw Just spent the day taking care of all kinds of trees from the winter storms- this saw is a joy to run- it gets the job done- originally was going to get a larger saw,, but a friend talked me out of it, said get the smaller one, the 250, what great advice,, this thing rocks,,, always use a nice new stihl chain (yea,, can't help it,, just can't resist the feeling of ripping through things with a new chain- I am just a homeowner- don't use it lots but love the feeling of a new chain when I do),, an amazing chainsaw- highly recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to start, powerful Spent 4 days (3-6 starts per day) learning to start this. Here is what you do:Cold start- Full choke- Pull until you get ANY response of any kind. Any burble, any burp, anything. Then flip to partial choke, pull until it starts. Let it run 5-20 seconds until its running ok given its on partial choke, blip the throttle (partial choke now automatically goes off) and you should be ready to go. DO NOT PULL on FULL CHOKE TOO MANY TIMES. I've never done more than 5, and 5 is only after I ran out of gas.Warm start: Less than 30 minutes since operation, just set to run an pull until it starts (just a few pulls typically). More than 30 minutes since operation. Set to partial choke, pull until it starts.I've never had to use full choke twice in a single dayI note it is also a light and powerful unit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love at first sight... Cutting wood for the cabin this spring and blew up my 10 year old saw that wasn’t a Stihl... in a pinch I was offered a used MS250 at a decent price from the dealership and jumped on it. It cut everything I threw in front of it like it was cutting through styrofoam. Had an issue starting it one day, but nothing a few extra pulls couldn’t help. My only regret is not buying this in the first place...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the right size. Good balance and does not weigh much. A little tricky to start but if you follow directions or check out youtube video on starting, this chainsaw will fire up in 2 to 3 pulls of the start cord.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stihl MS250 Bought this saw at Big R. Staff was great. I love this saw. Best saw I've ever owned. I use it to cut firewood for home use and this thing does such a great job. It's effortless with trees as thick as 2 feet or so in diameter. Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around Chain Saw I have no complaints about performance or my expectations of this saw. Its powerful motor almost equals my old 029 Farm Boss and is a lot lighter weight. I found some reviews on the web that it could be hard to start. I also learned on the web (other reviewers) that starting procedure MUST be follow (in manual) that it is easier to flood than other chainsaws because of the high performance design. I follow starting procedure and have NO trouble starting saw cold. I am a stihl fan. Have back pack blower, tiller, 3 chainsaws etc... also have other brands and much prefer Stihl.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for Advertised Use This saw has decent power and is light enough to run without getting worn out due to the weight of the saw. It cuts well for its size- I have no problem cutting through the hardwoods on my property up to 16 inch diameter. It is constructed as a homeowner saw so it isn’t as robust as the pro models but for somebody like myself who only fells and bucks 3-6 trees in a year this saw is perfect. Aka I have no need to pay extra for the pro saw when I don’t use my saw enough to wear the homeowner version out in my lifetime. If you follow the starting procedure recommended in the manual it starts right up everyte

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all around small saw I use this saw everyday for cutting limbs and felling smaller trees. Has no problem cutting up to 14 inch trees. Much more than that it becomes underpowered but I use it as a professional saw even though its a "homeowners" saw. It is an excellent saw for everything you could possibly do as a homeowner or rancher cleaning up downed trees or cutting firewood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for home use This saw is 100 times better than the craftsman I had previously. cuts right though everything easily. Light and easy to use.
